html Training Video

I recently watched a video on Youtube called Basic HTML Tutorial, and it taught the extremely bare basics of making a webpage. It told readers how to make a webpage; you would use the 'notepad' feature of your computer, type the open and close html commands, type your message in between, save the file as .html, access the webpage, and use the the bold command. It did not include anything else, and was extremely shallow, but it was a good and not-confusing way for beginners to start using html.

Laura's Website

I went to a website, where a young girl named Laura tells readers about a good deed she did every day of december untill Christmas. Laura and her mom give examples of good deeds Laura did in their website, and encourages readers and their kids to also do good deeds and make a difference in the world. For example: on December 13th 2007, Laura cleaned her fishbowl and talked about how much she loves her cat and fish. On December 12th 2007, Laura voluntered to put lables on 500 letters for a Tourette’s syndrome fundraiser, and she talked about a friend who has Tourette's. I think this website is a good encouragement for children to do good deeds for the world. For example, one good deed I could do in the next two weeks would be to collect money to donate to the Salvation Army...one man on the news donated $3,000!!!

Missing Hoax

When I read the "Evan Trembling is Missing" post on the internet,
I was very concerned about this boy and his family, and I almost wanted to send this
distressing page to everyone in my adressbook to askthem to keep an eye out and help
this family, but something was missing...
When I looked at this message more closely, they left out specific details
about what the boy was wearing, where he was last seen, the date he was kidnapped, and
other things parents should know about their kids. Also, the e-mail adress given was missing
the dot in .com, and even with the dot, it wasn't a valid adress. There was no other contact info given.
I looked this boy up on google, ant it turns out that the whole thing was a hoax! The kid used everyone who read this post in his own practical joke! I was infuriated
that I actually felt sorry for this kid at the beginning, and it shocks me that anyone with a heart
would joke about somethong like that!
Here are some links that show you what I was talking about:

Response to "Who Am I"

I think this person is the creator of http://www.google.com/, since Google is fairly new and it is probably the largest used website in the world.

Safe Blogging

Video #1: Think Before You Post
This Video was about a girl who posted a picture of herself on a school bulletin board representing the internet. Soon, most of the school had a copy of it, since once it was put on, you could remove it, but a new one would take its place.
Reaction:
I thought it was a good video to inform kids about the dangers of posting yourself on the web, and how, once you put it in, you couldn't take it off.
Vidoe #2: Add Counsel and National Crime Prevention Counsel...
This video was about a girl saying nasty things about another girl in front of a large audience. The large audience represents everyone on the web and the girl posted the mean things she was saying.
Reaction:
I thought this was a good video with an excelent message: Stop Cyber-bullying
Video#3: Online Sexual Exploitation
This video is about how a sexual predator and a little girl were talking about what they think about people they meet on the internet.
Reaction:
I thought this video was a little confusing, but it has a good message: you can't trust everyone, no matter how nice they seem to be.

Globalization

The world is becoming so 'smaller' if you think about it. With new technology in communication, almost nothing could stay a secret for long. Information comes and goes back and fourth without restriction. There are also some benifits though, such as, in early days, it took almost years to get from 1 side of the world to the other, but now it takes a few hours with plane travel. Communication took so long, battles were fought weeks after a peace treaty was signed, now it takes 30 secconds to communitcate with everyone using a radio or phone. Travelers used to walk 15 miles a day before resting. Now we get over 300 with a car before stoping at a hotel. People used to have to work right next to their houses, now they might live 60 miles away from their workplace. In conclusion, the world is getting easier, but very 'smaller'.
